Though Abhay tried to make his family follow the Vaishnava lifestyle and discouraged his wife from drinking tea, she once told him that she would choose tea over her husband. Abhay was shocked when he discovered one day that she had bartered his copy of the Bhagavatam for tea biscuits. This incident made Abhay leave home; his sons were grown up to look after the business and he could finally engage fully in preaching. They thought he would travel, as usual, for a few weeks and return, but Abhay knew that he would never return. His family life was finished.
